How to ace an impromptu speech?

At work, one of the key demands is the ability to speak extemporaneously. What if you were asked to say a few words to your team, come up with an impromptu comment, or deliver an unexpected elevator pitch to a potential partner or investor?

This Forbes article explains  brilliantly how to deliver short impromptu speeches, 5 minutes or less:

  1. Start out with a statement that clearly explains your point of view.
  2. Then give 3 supporting comments, expanding on them for thirty seconds to a minute.
  3. Finally, as your 5 minutes draw to a clause, repeat your statement in similar words.
